[ Iceland was waiting, so barely a moment passes before he answers the door and quickly ushers her towards his bedroom. Normally he'd be more awkward but THE EGG IS TOTALLY HATCHING HE'S KIND OF FREAKING OUT.
The egg is wiggling around on a blanket on the floor-- Iceland didn't know where to put it! What if egg goop came out and it stained his desk or bed! In any case, he's fidgeting, kind of hovering close to Mei as if expecting her to know what to do?? Like she could do anything about this at all... ]
[ it's not like she's awkward about it either! this is way too exciting to be shy - an egg hatching was something to celebrate!
she crouches down onto her haunches, gently running her fingers over the shell. there's some preliminary cracks that she can see, and her smile brightens. ]
Yeah! You called me just in time... it should only be a few minutes now. [ she looks at him, her enthusiasm apparent. ] Are you excited?
It will. You've been taking care of it all this time, haven't you? And besides, Pokémon and humans are natural partners. It'll be loyal to you right from the get go.
As long as you treat it with love and care, there's no way that it couldn't like you. So stop doubting yourself, okay?
[ her eyes dart to the egg, and she lets out a little happy squeak. only a couple of minutes now...! ]
[ she reaches over to wrap her arms around his shoulders in a quick hug - it's all she can do when they're crouched down like this. but she can't stay like that for long - the egg begins to glow brightly as the egg's cracks get deeper. she's totally awe struck as the shell breaks... ]
Here we go!
[ ..and the light dies down, revealing a healthy baby (and bone dry) Eevee in the blanket. its eyes go directly to Iceland, and it lets out a squeaky bark. ]
Ah. [ His voice catches a little. Oh my gosh. ] It's cute.
[ Despite his lackluster verbal reaction, he's really quite excited! Look at him, all fidgety and blushing. He reaches forward to let Eevee inspect his hand and get his very first headpets!! ]
It's called an Eevee. It's a Normal-type, so it's about as basic as you can get... but when it comes to evolution, Eevee are one of the most unique species of Pokémon in the world.
[ he really is cute... the Eevee, that is. she gives him a soft scratch behind the ears as well, carefully inspecting him to make sure that he looks normal and healthy. he looks a bit sleepy, but doesn't take his eyes off of Iceland. ]
Oh, yeah. [ Fetching some paper and a pen from his desk! His birds chitter excitedly when he approaches, but quiet down once he leaves again. Sorry, birbs... ]
Uh, here.
i'm sorry you are subject to my shitty ms paint skills
Okay... let's see. [ she clicks the pen open, and draws a bit of a crude diagram. hey, pokémon masters can't be good at everything. ]
Okay, so pretend that that circle up there is an Eevee - totally normal and basic. The way it works is that the genetic code of the species is really delicate... like, almost any factor can determine how an Eevee evolves. That means that while most Pokémon only have a single, straight evolution line, Eevee's can branch out in a whole bunch of different ways.
[ she points to the fire symbol that she drew. ] Since my Eevee was exposed to a Fire Stone, it evolved into Flareon, a Fire-type. The same goes for most of the other evolutions - elemental conditions play a big role in how an Eevee grows. There are other factors, like whether it's daytime or nighttime when an Eevee is ready to evolve that can affect it, too. It's what makes Eevee one of the most diverse Pokémon out there!
That's okay, too! There are even cases of Pokémon themselves not wanting to evolve, and that's totally natural. Evolution is sort of a natural growth that both the Pokémon itself and you as the trainer have control over.
[ she holds out her hand towards Eevee, offering it to smell. ] But you probably don't have to worry about that for awhile anyway... he's only just hatched, after all. I just wanted to give you the info early.
I know you will! That's why I chose you, after all. [ she responds by smiling brightly. anything that could be taken as a happy gesture is good enough for her! the cute blush doesn't hurt, either. ]
action; i can't believe i almost forgot

I- I guess.
[ He is! It's just hard for him to express himself, especially when he's emotionally charged. ]
I mean, I guess I am. But my stomach kinda hurts...

[ she puts a reassuring hand on his shoulder, offering him a smile that's just as much so. ]
It'll be fine, I promise.

Still, he keeps eye contact with the lil guy, crouching down further, supported by his elbows, to get a better look. ]
no subject
No, silly. Flareon's only one of the evolutions that Eeevee has - there are like, seven other possibilities! Maybe more.
no subject
Don't hit me. [ Even though that hardly counted. ]
--But if it can evolve that much, how do you keep track? I mean... how does that even work?
[ He only covered basics with Cheren so bear with him Mei. ]

i'm blinded 5ever (wow no it's fine, nata)
But I don't want Eevee to evolve, I like it the way it is. [ On cue, Eevee lets out another squeaky bark. ]

I bet you're hungry, huh? Hatching sure sounds like it would rack up an appetite.
